My favorite subject

This semester I have an interesting subject that is called Anthropology of nature. This course is what we call an applied; because the main idea is to work on what’s really happening, no just stay in books and theory. To do this, the main assignment to evaluate this subject is by means of a field trip to Limarí valley. We have to choose a research topic to apply to what we live during the experience, which is in total two weeks. Besides the trip, in class we usually talk about the other experiences of our classmates, and in this way we have been able to build an overview of what happens on Limarí, their traditions, their problems, their ways to relating, the local economy, and many other relevant aspects to the social anthropology. Our teacher, Jorge Razeto, is a rural anthropologist who teaches us concepts, methodologies, history and many tools to apply on our field work. For example, we review the concepts of landscape, territory, environment, and local words.

AN EXPERT IN MI FIELD

In anthropology we can focus on many different topics about what is and what makes the human being. The areas that are most interesting for me is medical anthropology and gender anthropology, so I would like to talk about a teacher on my faculty, Michelle Sadler, who has a master on gender studies and a master of science in medical anthropology in Oxford University. He has done a lot of investigations and publications about how women and men face the health system. I’m deeply interested on her studies about obstetric violence, because is a terrible problem that has existed since the birth was medicalized, and that recently in this decade has come to light as a health problem that affects to women and their new born child’s. Definitely she has done a big contribution to the field, and has opened the discussion on a problem that in our country is not yet possible to legislate, unlike other parts of the continent.

MOVIES

One of the most common activities among my friends and family is watching movies, so is a recurrent theme to talk. I usually see movies when I want to have a good time, either alone or with company. I almost never go to the cinema, just two or three times a year, but every time I go to one I remember that I like the big screens and the high sound.

The movie genre that I most like is drama and comedy, like for example Woody Allen films. I don’t have a specific favorite film director because they vary greatly according to their country, besides many different styles.

One of my favorite films is a British movie called “About Time”, from Richard Curtis. This is a lovely history about a man who can travel back in time and fix mistakes over and over again. I like this film because was so soft and beautiful, and gave the idea of enjoying every moment of life.

I would like to discover more movies and directors, and know every day more about cinema, because it is an entertaining way to learn.
